The scene opens up to the familiar gym of Free Spirit Gym where there could be seen chuck once again wearing a pair of gray sweats, a Free Spirit Gym shirt while laying upon a bench. He was currently pressing what was obviously a considerable amount of weight; a look of concentration and focus upon his features is noticeable. Slowly the camera zooms out slowly to revealing the wall where a multitude of various trophies and plaques are assembled. A man could be seen standing within the spotter's position which turned out to be none other than Derryk Aires himself, inaudible words of encouragement could be made out by the movement of his lips.
The Prodigy's hands set to catch the bar just in case something didn't go as planned while his posture showed he was as much into the training as his old pal, Chuck. Derryk could be seen wearing a pair of black jogging shorts with white sneakers and an ACW white tank top. It was evident from the sweat that Chuck and Derryk had been training for hours, perhaps the entire day and into the evening.
“Oi, Derryk looks like it's time for that photo op!”
As far as anyone could notice that Aires paid little attention to the voice that was a bit high pitched even for a male, perhaps belonging to a female? In question the camera panned about until it came upon none other than than the pale complexion, skinny as a twig of a man with a couple missing front teeth known as Ace to the world. The camera slowly shifts away from Ace and back to the Prodigy who was smiling as Chuck finished his last rep up, putting the weighted bar back upon it's resting place before he eased his way to sitting position.
“Chuck your still a beast, just like the old days when we trained together. Ace on the other hand might find me palming his face and slamming him back into a locker if he doesn't keep his trap shut.”
Derryk and Chuck gave a small laugh at the memories brought forth while it could see the twig of a man known as Ace moving away like a child who was denied that candy bar he was begging for. It wasn't the Prodigy who spoke this time, but instead Chuck while still laughing a bit as he held a bottle of water which he picked up from out of his bag.
”So you got a match against the former World Heavyweight Champion, A.C. Smith this week, pal. Got any thoughts on going toe to toe again with the man who beat you last time?”
Derryk paused for a moment as he took the time to think over the question. Casually he leaned against the wal with one hand scratching his chin, a look of one remembering a past memory flitting across his features. Brown eyes slowly refocused upon the present day as he looked back towards chuck with a smile barely forming upon his lips; the corners tugging upwards just slightly.
”You know Chuck, ever since I found out that I was to face the former World Heavyweight Champion for round two; I was actually quite excited to get another crack at Smith to show him what the Prodigy is about. You see last time I had my own head so far up my a** that I neglected the important things besides watching old footage of his matches that I forgot to do my own training.”
“Yet while we speak of training as I recall from the last time he spoke we never see Smith himself training to get better, sure he says he does that, but really first time we saw him talk about Aires versus Smith when he had the title; the only thing he did was sit upon a couch and talk to a shrink. The next time he he spoke to me, was he training? No, no instead he was busy being at a bar. What is his idea of training getting up and down from a stool or couch?”
Aires shook his head as Chuck gave a small laugh with a bob of his head in agreement to Derryk.
”You got a point there, bro. If your going to preach it then you should at least do it yourself before opening your mouth.”
Derryk gave a small nod to Chuck as he looked towards his long time friend, his posture shifting subtlety from relaxed and casual to all business. Brown eyes narrowing just slightly as he let more of his focus be seen.
”Precisely, the man seems to also have forgotten where I had snagged a towel as walked out of my hotel room. What the hell he think I was going to do? Go downstairs for a shower? That is the past though, we can overlook that small little tid bit. Yet let's move on to bigger things such as why is it that Smith there thinks he can preach not training on screen yet says he does to get better.”
”Really Smith every time see you talk it is some little setting outside of a gym or even a jog. Yet Smith it's not only when you lose that you should train to get better, but if it isn't broke than don't fix it, eh? Although you know Smith didn't do a bad job at Struggle For Supremacy either, Chuck. You know perhaps instead of busy sitting at a computer or anything else he could of been seen doing something like, oh I don't know, training then maybe he could have gotten a bit further.”
Aires came to a moment for a pause so he could get a drink of water. Leaning over to get that bottle of water out from his bag while Chuck would speak up, taking advantage of Aires being preoccupied.
”Hey don't forget how he kept gloating about the win over Mike Voland despite fact it was shoved down his throat and tried making the win sound better than it was. Sure the man got a win in the books, but how can you go on about the win when you only got your a** beat out of the door? Or be proud of winning the World Heavyweight Championship because your fat a** blocks the view of the official and think the right thing is defend it at Struggle for Supremacy instead of just putting the issue to rest as quickly as possible?”
Aires looked towards Chuck with one of those 'Shut up before I throw you through a wall' type of looks for a moment.
”I'm thankful for the help and everything, but really Smith can only do so much and perhaps him getting Travis a spot at the Tournament of Eight was the only thing he could do. Who knows? Does it matter really? Not at all because frankly I'm not Kyle Travis, which I am damn glad to say. Yeah he won the big belt in a shady fashion, but he won it and you can't take that from him. Smith did beat Hyena to get that shot and that's one hell of a victory.”
“He may not have walked out of Struggle of Supremacy with the belt, but he did walk in and that is an achievement in itself. How many guys can say they walked in the Champion? Hey he lost to Devon, but it was a damn good match to watch. Can I be sure that he'll bring it more this time? Not really because frankly the man has the 'if it is not broken than don't fix it' mentality. He beat me once cleanly and going to come into this thinking he can beat me again, but doubt we will be seeing him doing any sort of workout more than sitting somewhere and shooting the s**t with one of his pals or chatting online.”
Derryk came to a pause as he looked towards chuck with a bit of a smile returning upon his features. His posture wasn't relaxed, but it wasn't anger. Instead there was an eerie calm as if he was ready to break into a fight at a moment's notice.
”But that's fine he can be busy doing that while I'm hitting the weights, going for a run twice a day, and training until the last minute before the gym closes down for the night. I'll continue to bust my a** to train and get better whether I get a win or victory because each match to me is like a World Heavyweight Championship match. That is the mentality that I am going in with and each time will push my limits further.”
'Well said, buddy! That is the Derryk Aires that I remember! Smith is going down this Shockwave, but aren't you worried the little bit about what he might say? You know things like how you didn't say something about him beating you or bringing up Evan Harrison beating you the week before him?
Aires was about to lift a dumbbells up to begin doing some curls when he paused. His head turning ever so slightly towards Chuck with a look of disbelief at the stupidity coming from his mouth.
”Man with ears like those you might just be the long lost relative of A.C. Smith, Chuck. You know I told Harrison congratulations before the first match with Smith and even in the airtime leading up to that match. I wouldn't be surprised if he brings it up again, but if he does than he does and just makes himself look even dumber than the first time he said. As for about him beating me, I just said earlier that he beat me clean. Even gave him the credit for it to boot and there is nothing more to say about that.”
”Alright alright, I deserved that one, but if you beat him here than what? You guys will be tied at one a piece?”
Derryk lifted the dumbbells up to begin those curls while he looks at chuck as if the man had been out in the sun too long or maybe the guy was dropped on his head one too many times as a kid.
”What you think I would do? I'd go for another match with Smith if he wanted to have a go at it. The man despite whatever I have said in the past is good in the ring and it is a pleasure to fight the man in the ring. He wants to go a series of matches than I'll be all for it, hell let's make it various different matches that won't know what type of match until the bell rings for a bit more fun. Although getting a head of myself as let's focus on this week, Shockwave. See I'm going to walk into Shockwave this week and go down to the ring to face off against the former Champ. We've had one match already so he believes he has an idea of what to expect, but I'm coming at him differently, more focused, more intense, and when the smoke clears it will be me walking out as the victor to tying up the score against Smith with a win a piece.”
Derryk looked towards Chuck as he curled the dumbbells, the intensity rolling off him, the focus burning from deep within him. Chuck had a smile of pride at his friend's words and even giving a nod of approval. Just when the old friends were having a good ole time ago despite the seriousness of the topic of Derryk's match when the little rat like Ace reemerged from the back with a wheezy laughter.
”Derryk what makes you think you can even beat A.C. Smith? The guy is in a league your not even close to being in and we all know this is just a squash match for Smith to get that win to make me look good.”
Camera swivels back towards the Prodigy as the laughter and good ole time was wiped from his face with the words of Ace. The dumbbells which he had been curling were set down and with him slowly standing tall; back straight and head held high.
”I'll tell you what, Ace. I'll give you that one a bit. Perhaps Smith isn't in my league when we faced last time, but this is a whole new ball game. I can beat A.C. Smith because despite not showing it except the one time; I am still watching those old matches of his. I am even watching him run his mouth and everything that has to do with A.C. Smith which has him on footage.”
“See unlike Smith who if the past depicts anything that he doesn't train, but instead runs off to train by running his mouth to his friends or a shrink or even talking it up to his fans online. Unlike Smith I am training, running every morning and night, hitting the weights as well as the ring. Day and night that is what I have been doing. Back to Basics is what I have been doing. Basics of training and learning your opponent. Training some more while not worrying who beat who in the past because today is a new day where anything is possible. Unlike Smith who most likely show up this time training just to try to prove my words wrong, I have been doing it off camera and on camera to prepare myself. Unlike Smith who will view this match most likely as a squash match as Ace here puts it, I will be viewing every match whether it is tag team or not as a World Championship match.
In short, Ace is that unlike A.C. Smith is that I train everyday whether it's a win or loss. I have the drive to rise above where I am at and the passion for this business. Don't get me wrong, Smith has the passion and drive as well, but it's just not the same.”
Aires shook his head towards Ace even as Ace began to speak once more, clearly the big man was getting irritated at Ace.
”There is no way you can possibly have more drive or passion than the former World Heavyweight Champion, Derryk. The man had the passion and drive for the business to leave a good paying job as a cop and become a wrestler. To win Championships that you haven't even won and choked on winning in ACW!”
The Prodigy paused for a moment at this verbal slap in the face as he looked towards Ace with a thoughtful expression. His body tensed immediately at the slap of not winning a championship, much less comment about choking. When Aires spoke next there was a forced calm within his voice as if trying to control himself from assaulting Ace.
”You know Ace that your right. Smith has won gold in ACW where as I have stumbled on the road of achieving gold the one chance that I have had so far. Hey though it's true Smith left a good paying job as a cop to chase his dreams of being a wrestler and he's done damn good for himself, but see there is the major difference between Smith and I. While he was busy playing cop and don't get me wrong I respect the guys who take that as a job; they have a tough job after all. See he was busy chasing the bad guys down while I was busy doing matches and busy training for the business that I was born to do.”
“See while Smith was running around being a cop or trying to figure out what he was going to do as a child, I was busy training and actually doing matches. Winning championships elsewhere and working to make it in the big fish pond. More than you can say of achieving for yourself, Ace. See while Smith had to form his own drive and passion, search for it while being a cop; I was born with the passion and drive to excel in only one job. That job is not just a job though, but it is my life and my world. So yes I have choked on the one chance to obtain gold, but it's not going to stop me from rising to holding such things as the United States or World Heavyweight Championships because I belong there, Ace. Smith has done a lot of great things from being a cop to winning the gold, but I have more to prove than he does as well. He has been there and sure it also means the man wants to get there again, but he won't have that same drive anymore. He's achieved it and now all he wishes is to achieve it a second time, but he will find that passion or drive to go further won't be the same.”
”So your saying that Smith is going to give up? Give me a break, Derryk! Smith's drive and passion is growing to be more intense and now he is going to want be even harder to face! You couldn't beat him when he was on top of the mountain and you think you can beat him now? When the man's hunger for another run as Champion is even more intense?”
Even while Derryk had spoken, Ace had moved to standing before his larger peer. Aires lifted a hand to palming the smaller man's face and shoving him to crumpling upon the ground as he slid on his a** into a shelf. Curses flew from the mouth of Ace even before a bag of ice fell off the shelf to hitting him on top of the head causing the entire gym to bust into laughter.
”I know I can beat, Smith. I know his passion and drive will be more intense, but first he has to find the balance. Yeah he maybe already has find that balance, but losing the big belt is going to be eating at him every day while my drive and passion have been intensified along with the balance restored. Will I defeat Smith at Shockwave? I believe that I will and there can be no doubt in my mind about that. Smith think he can beat me a second time? Of course he does because he thinks he already knows he has a victory over me, but look where it got Xavier and Lola. Ashley pinned Lola after the odd partners took it to them where we each pulled our weight to achieve the victory.”
“See that's a great starting place for getting back on track. I have the victory to push myself forward and now it's time to push it forward even more while Smith falls a step behind because the man also has to worry about Jason Storm and Harrison may be reappearing at the moment's notice. Yet if they do show up in middle of our and try something than I'm willing to put our match on hold for two of us to take them out so the two can't interfere with the match. I want a clean win as I have always gotten in the past over others I have face.”
Derryk paused to shake his head as he swiped his bottle of water to lifting it up. The final drink of water was taken before he looked towards Chuck while Chuck was trying to suppress his laughter at the sight of Ace holding his head as he walked to the back.
”Chuck we got our run to do, let's go do that before Ace comes back and forces me to put him through the wall or something. Gym is about to shut down anyhow for the night at least. I'll even bet twenty bucks that I'll beat you again.”
”Beat me? Your dreaming, Derryk! Your on though, it feels kinda bad taking your money, but it's a couple extra beers for me!”
Aires laughed as he grabbed his bag while Chuck did the same for the two of them to be seen walking towards the exit of the Free Spirit Gym as the camera fades to darkness.
